Glaisdale
This attractive village on the River Esk is nestled in the hillside and gets much of its character from its ironstone mining past. It has its own local butcher, village shop and post office, pub, garage, and railway station on the Esk Valley line. Crossing the river is Beggars Bridge, an ancient packhorse bridge with its own romantic story. Glaisdale is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with open moorland, woodland and rivers. It is a haven for walkers and cyclists and is centrally placed in the Esk Valley for exploring the surrounding moors or visiting Whitby and The Heritage Coast just 8 miles away.
